Arsenal will be looking to improve on there 4th position (67 points) of last season. A poor start to that season cost the gunners dearly and with expectant supporters demanding an upturn in league performances, there is certainly pressure on Arsene Wenger to produce title winning football at the start of the 2006-2007 campaign.

Many outside viewers perceive reaching the champions league final of 2005-2006 was a classic example of "papering over the cracks". The loss of Patrick Vieira to Juventus hit the gunners hard (harder than many Arsenal supporters ever imagined). They certainly missed his leadership qualities if not his football abilities. As a direct consequence of Vieira's departure Thierry Henry was instilled as the new captain.

Prospects for Arsenal in this seasons campaign remain split between those who believe Arsenal will kick on from last years admirable champions league final appearance and mount a sustained challenge for the golden chalice of premier league glory and those who believe that Arsene Wenger has failed to sufficiently add to the squad with numbers and real quality. Harmony in the Arsenal dressing room has also been undermined by the on-going transfer speculation of Ashley Cole (Chelsea bound) and Antonio Reyes (Real Madrid).

There is no doubt Arsene Wenger has the midas touch when it comes to young talent, the emergence of players like Eboue, Clichy, Senderos and the brilliant Fabregas ensures the stylish, free flowing football the Arsenal supporters will lap up this year at their new Emirates stadium.

It is away from home that worries neutral observers. Can they grind out results against tough and physical teams like Bolton and Blackburn? even more importantly will the lack of quality signings during the summer, coupled with the annual reliance of Thierry Henry damage their title prospects?

Arsenal predicted placing of 2006-2007: 5th place.
